BITUMEN :PAVING BITUMEN TYPE 1
BITUMEN is used for road construction,surfacing airfield .runways and taxi tracks , hydraulic application suchas canal lining ,river bank protection ,dam construction andsea defense.
It is also used in industrial applicationslike roofing, felt manufacture, printing inks electrical cable/junction boxes ,mastic for flooring , water proofing of terraces. duplex paper manufacture,etc.
Paving bitumen Type 1 shall be classifiedinto six grades according to their penetration and each grade shall be givendesignation as given in the table with letter s denoting the type and anumeral representing the mean of the limit of the limits of the penetrationspecified for the grade.
Bitumen conforms to IS 73 : 1992 (Reaffirmed2003) and amendment no 3 specifications for straight grades.

PavingBitumen Type 2 shall be classified into four grades according to theirpenetration and each grade shall be given designation as given in the tablewith letter A denoting the type and anumeral representing the mean of the limits of penetration, specified for thegrade.
